Prepare your student visa

After you’ve enrolled at the Dutch university, you can go ahead to begin your visa application. Ensure you start the process early for quick results. For your student visa, you’ll need the following:

A passport is valid for 3 months. Your passport must have at least two blank pages.

A duly completed and signed visa application form. If you’re a minor, your parents or legal guardian will have to sign the form.

Proof of income. It is expected that you have enough money to spend at least 850 euros per month.

Proof of accommodation for the whole duration of stay in the Netherlands.

Student visas are usually processed within 15 days. You’ll need to apply for a provisional residence visa, often referred to as MVV Visa. Consequently, your institution will apply for a full residence permit on your behalf. Typically, international students are allowed to work part-time so long it doesn’t affect their studies. You’ll need to undergo a medical test for tuberculosis within three months of arriving in the Netherlands. Failure to comply will lead to a withdrawal of your residence permit. Your residence permit is valid throughout your study in the country, with an additional 3 months.

In some cases, you may be required to take a civic integration exam at the consulate. It costs about €150.
