Booking a train ticket
There are 3 ways to book a ticket: through the website, mobile app, POS or cash at the station. Due to the corrupt practices by rail officials and the long wait to purchase a ticket, the federal government introduced the e-ticketing platform. The booking process is now a lot easier. 25,000 tickets were issued online on the day of the e-ticketing solution launch. Here’s how to purchase a train ticket from Abuja to Kaduna.
Log onto the website
You’ll need to create an account before you can proceed with the booking. Click on the sign-up button. Input your email address and other necessary information. You will receive a confirmation mail which verifies your registration. Proceed to the website to continue your booking.
Choose your route and date
Select the train station and your destination. Once done, choose the date of the trip. You can only book a ticket for the same day or the following day. After filling in all the required details, click on “find my train”. You’ll see an interface showing the available trains and timings. Select the time of travel and class. You can choose economy or business. Also, select the coach you want. Once you choose a coach, the seat arrangement will appear. The available seats are in green colour while the occupied ones have a different colour. You are not allowed to choose the occupied seats. Once a coach is filled, you can go ahead to select another coach.
If there’s no available train for the selected date, you will receive a display message like’ No trains available for your selection. Please modify your source and destination’. If this happens, you will need to pick another date or route. It’s advised you review the form to ensure that it is filled correctly.
Reserve a seat
After choosing a coach, you’ll be redirected to another page for seat reservations. This page displays the ticket fee and other charges like stamp duty, insurance and medical charges. Ensure you don’t make mistakes during booking as there’s no room for refund. Once you’ve reviewed everything, proceed to reserve a seat. You can reserve a seat for another person as well. Select if the individual is an adult, a minor or a special need person. Typically, special need people pay less for a train ticket. In this case, they pay half of the adult fare. After selecting a category, go ahead to reserve the seat.
Pay for the train fare
Upon seat reservation, proceed to make payment. You’ll need to enter your card details in the provided space. Once the payment goes through, you’ll receive your ticket. After confirming payment, you’ll get a receipt of payment in your email. Furthermore, a ticket will be generated in your account. Go to your account and click on the ticket tab to access your ticket. You can choose to save the ticket as PDF or print it.
While you can book your train ticket via the website, you can also book through the Nigerian Railway Corporation Mobile App. Search for the app on Google playstore or Apple store. Then, proceed to download the app.
