Early Life of Ibukun Awosika

Born Ibukun Abiodun Adekola, Ibukun Awosika was born in Ibadan to late Mr Abdulmashood Adekola and late Mrs Hannah Mayinbo Adekola. The 3rd of many children, she was born on the 24th of December, 1962.

Ibukun Awosika is married to Mr Abiodun Awosika who is the Managing Director/CEO at Excel Exploration and Production Company Limited, Nigeria. They both are blessed with three daughters Oludola, Olafusika, Olamiposi. Ibukun, alongside her business and social side, is a pastor. Funmilayo Adeyinka and Remi Adekola are her siblings; she is the third of seven children. Ibukun loves to speak of her happy home and how she has balanced her spiralling career and her family life. She is also a media personality as she currently hosts a TV program called “Business His Way” which is about ethical business principles manifested through faith in God.

Ibukun Awosika went to St. Paul African Church primary school for her primary education and proceeded to attend Methodist Girl’s High School, Yaba, Lagos State. She also bagged a B.sc in Chemistry from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University. She has also received post-graduate certificates from taking up business programs at the Lagos Business School and IESE Business School, University of Navarra. She has equally obtained Doctorate degrees from Obafemi Awolowo University and Olabisi Onabanjo University respectively.

Ibukun Awosika’s Career
Ibukun Awosika was the former chairman, board of directors of First Bank Nigeria Limited and was the first woman to attain such a position at the bank in 2015. Despite studying Chemistry at the university, she took accounting courses as electives and worked as an audit trainee at Akintola Williams & Co, now Deloitte. In 1989, she started a furniture manufacturing company called Quebees Limited which was later transformed to be The Chair Centre Limited and is now known as SOKOA Chair Centre Limited after a venture merges with Guaranty Trust Bank and SOKOA S.A. She is a member of the IESE international advisory board and is a board member of Digital Jewel Limited, Cadbury Nig Plc and Women In Management, Business and Public Service. She is an honorary fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers Nigeria.
She is the author of many books including: “The Girls in the Boardroom”, “The Girl Entrepreneurs”, “Business His Way” and “My Thoughts His Way”. She is an ardent and eloquent motivational speaker and host of the TV program ‘Business His Way‘.
