Babs Ogundeyi is the CEO and Co-founder of Kuda Bank, a no-fee service that leverages the power of technology to build the best bank for all Africans on the planet. He is a highly skilled man who has proven this in the financial services sector and worked as the former Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Oyo state on finance.

EARLY LIFE

Babs Ogundeyi attended The Downs School. He excelled in sporting activities (1st XV Rugby, 1st XI Hockey) during his secondary school days at King’s College, Taunton and proceeded to Brunel University London where he had a BA (Honours) Business Studies & Accounting.

After his education, he cofounded Motortrader which was later sold to a major Newspaper company in Nigeria (April 2002 – May 2005), was an engagement manager who led audits for PwC (October 2002 – March 2010), partnered with Redbrick Ltd (March 2010- June 2011) and a special advisor to the Governor of Oyo state (June 2011 – May 2015). As the special advisor he advised the State Governor on fiscal policies, was responsible for capital raising in the State, successfully led the largest Bond raise in the State’s history – a 55billion Naira bond program, was responsible for setting up the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) office and Debt Management Office (DMO) in Oyo State, created products to boost Internally Generated Revenue which lead to a 5x increase in 4years, Head of the State’s Microfinance Bank turning it from a $2m loss position into a profit-making entity within 4years, set up and managed Oyo State Pension Contributory Scheme. He also cofounded Kudimoney (January 2017 – July 2018) which is Nigeria’s first online-only lending and savings platform.

During this, he acquired skills like financial reporting, management consulting, financial analysis, strategic planning and so on that have contributed to his strong growth in the financial services sector.

CAREER

Babs is the CEO and Co-founder of Kuda since July 2018 till present together with his partner, Musty Mustapha. They both had a mission to create the bank of the free with their no fee full-service bank which is the first of its kind in Nigeria. In 2020, Kuda partnered with Lagos Food Bank, a non-governmental organization to launch a ₦1.5 million Covid-19 fund targeted at catering for the less privileged in Lagos State. This resulted in Babs earning recognition for his efforts in curbing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. With this and more contributions, Kuda has been growing seamlessly and therefore increasing his contribution to Nigeria FinTech. As of October 27th of 2021, he has made personal investments in Seed Round and Union54. He has also appeared in numerous hubs as a financial tech figure worthy of emulation.

PERSONAL LIFE

Even as an ex-rugby player, Babs enjoys watching football matches and he is a strong fan of the Liverpool Football Club. He is married to Honey Ogundeyi and they are blessed with children. Babs is a heavy lover of technology and that shows in his dedication to banking all Africans with Kuda. His current interest is cloud seeding.
